Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping Singapore’s labor market in profound ways, marking both a surge in employment opportunities and challenges tied to job displacement. The country’s employment landscape is witnessing a notable evolution as AI-related roles grow significantly, yet certain traditional jobs, particularly entry-level positions, face disruption.
In 2025, the demand for AI skills skyrocketed, with approximately 30,000 new AI-related job postings making up 5.3% of all openings—an increase from 3.3% in the previous year. This surge highlights the expanding need for talent equipped with AI expertise across various industries. Reflecting this rising value, these roles are commanding a wage premium starting at 32%, underscoring AI’s role as a pivotal driver for career and talent valuation.
The Singapore government is actively supporting this AI integration through the National AI Impact Programme (NAIIP), which aims to assist 10,000 enterprises over three years in adopting AI technologies. This initiative exemplifies a strategic commitment to fostering innovation and equipping businesses for a future intertwined with AI.
However, alongside these promising developments, challenges persist. The Ministry of Manpower is paying close attention to the potential impact of AI on entry-level Professional, Managerial, Executive, and Technical (PMET) roles, implementing AI-focused education and job redesign efforts to prepare the workforce for this transformation.
The transport sector, in particular, displays significant shifts with the rise of automated systems. Responding proactively, the government has allocated $800 million over five years toward transport research and innovation, aiming to facilitate worker transitions to higher-skilled roles amidst technological changes.
In essence, Singapore’s labor market is at a pivotal juncture where AI is not only creating exciting new career pathways but also necessitating thoughtful strategies to manage workforce transitions. The government’s multifaceted approach seeks to balance these dynamics, ensuring that workers are equipped to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven economy.
