Armored Mewtwo is storming back into Pokémon GO — but only for a short, explosive weekend. Announced live at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, Niantic confirmed that the armored variant of Mewtwo will appear in five‑star raids during Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale.
Mark your calendars: the Mega Finale runs Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on both days. During those windows, Armored Mewtwo will show up in five‑star raid battles. The official post makes one clear collector note: Shiny Armored Mewtwo will not be available at this time.
For fans who know the lore, Armored Mewtwo is the armored incarnation seen in the film Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution (2019). The armor’s role in that story is to hold back or suppress Mewtwo’s power so it can be controlled — yet the article emphasizes that even restrained, Armored Mewtwo still possesses “overwhelming strength that surpasses other Pokémon.”
The announcement also ties into the movie’s availability: Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution is streaming on Netflix, giving players a chance to revisit the story behind this unique form. The post ends with a standard safety reminder to be aware of your surroundings and follow local health guidance, and it encourages players to follow official Pokémon GO channels for any updates. The news item is presented and signed by —The Pokémon GO team.
What the official post does not specify: there’s no printed publication date on the page (the announcement is tied to the 2026 World Championships), and Niantic does not provide raid stats, CP, movesets, or any details about long‑term availability beyond the two‑day event. It also doesn’t state whether Armored Mewtwo will be obtainable in any way other than five‑star raids. If you want a shot at Armored Mewtwo, plan to take part in five‑star raids during the Mega Finale weekend and watch the official channels for any last‑minute changes.
