At the 2026 National Day Rally, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong unveiled a comprehensive set of initiatives designed to empower Singaporean families throughout their parenting journeys. These measures aim to make parenthood more accessible and manageable, fostering an environment where families can thrive.
One of the highlights is the enhancement of childcare leave for working parents with children up to 12 years old, increasing leave days depending on the number of children—from 8 days for one child to 12 days for three or more children. This policy supports work-life balance by giving parents protected time to nurture their young ones.
Complementing this, the new SG Child Support Package offers up to $70,000 in financial assistance per Singapore Citizen child from birth to age 17. Newborns receive a $10,000 Baby Gift, a $5,000 MediSave grant, and up to $5,000 in matched savings. Families also benefit from ongoing support like $2,000 annual child credits throughout childhood, Edusave contributions totaling approximately $2,500, and a substantial $10,000 top-up for post-secondary education.
To ease the burden of childcare costs, the government plans to reduce full-day fees at government-supported preschool centers by 2030, making quality caregiving more affordable and accessible.
Addressing housing needs for growing families, the income ceilings for Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, Sale of Balance Flats (SBF), and new Executive Condominiums (EC) have been raised to accommodate higher earners. Additionally, families with children will gain extra ballot chances during the housing sales, improving their opportunities to secure suitable homes.
Together, these initiatives underscore Singapore’s commitment to being a nation made for families. By supporting childcare, financial needs, caregiving, and housing, the government is fostering a nurturing environment where Singaporean families are encouraged to grow and flourish with confidence.
