Step Into the Movies: ‘The Story of Studio Ghibli’ Makes World Premiere at Gardens by the Bay

Studio Ghibli’s worlds are coming to life in Singapore. The Story of Studio Ghibli — billed as the largest presentation of the travelling exhibition to date — will make its world premiere at Gardens by the Bay’s West Lawn, opening on 18 December 2026 and running through 4 July 2027. Occupying nearly 3,500 square metres, the immersive, walk-through experience promises to be a must-visit for fans and families alike.

More than a simple display of props and posters, the show is built as 12 life-sized recreated “worlds” inspired by beloved Studio Ghibli films. Physical sets are combined with multimedia installations to recreate iconic scenes and environments from titles such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Howl’s Moving Castle and The Boy and the Heron. The article highlights a number of vivid, shareable moments visitors can expect: an encounter with the Ohmu from Nausicaä, standing beside Totoro while waiting for the Catbus, and walking alongside No-Face in a bathhouse-inspired installation.

Organisers say the exhibition aims to go beyond visual spectacle. Produced by Tsukuru, Inc and M Experience and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, the presentation intends to invite visitors to engage with the stories’ deeper ideas and values — creativity, resilience and environmental stewardship — while also developing educational initiatives tied to the themes. M Experience’s CEO Sean Lim is quoted as describing an effort to let visitors “engage with the stories beyond simply viewing recreated scenes,” signalling an emphasis on reflection as well as atmosphere.

Practical details are visitor-friendly. The West Lawn at Gardens by the Bay (18 Marina Gardens Drive) will host the exhibition, which will be open daily from 10:00 to 19:00. Tickets are on sale now through Klook, the official ticketing partner. An early-bird promotion runs until 17 December 2026 and includes an exclusive limited-edition gift with each adult ticket purchased while stocks last — a useful incentive for early planners.

Admission bands are tiered for locals and tourists. Singapore citizens and permanent residents can expect standard prices from S$39 for adults and S$29 for concessions (seniors aged 65+ and children aged 3–12). Other visitors will see off-peak adult fares starting at S$49 (concession S$43) and peak-period adult tickets at S$55 (concession S$49).

What’s clear from the announcement is that this will be a large-scale, carefully produced celebration of Studio Ghibli’s imagination, with opportunities for hands-on and reflective experiences as well as photo-ready moments. For those planning a visit, mark the dates — 18 December 2026 to 4 July 2027 — and consider booking early to secure the promotion and preferred timeslot.
